NODE 13: The Odd Stone Out

The small stone out of the main circle and apart from the southern row (seen with the loch behind in the distance) was referred to as no. 35 (see map). The smallest upright stone at Calanais, it is the only one standing that was known to have been toppled and re-erected. The stone was anchored in concrete sometime in the last century when it was planted back in the ground, and indeed, it is not known for certain if its present placement is consistent with the original configuration. The stone was also broken at one time and the top was re-attached (you can see the horizontal seam at the midway point).
