NODE 10 - Along the East Row

The East Row may trace the path of the moon at equinox (G.S. Hawkins) or the Pleiades (B. Somerville), but most experts are a loss as to explain the alignment with any real veracity. Nonetheless, while it has been hypothesised that Stonehenge in the south of England was built to mark the path of the sun, Calanais seems to tie in with the movements of the moon. The latitude of this northerly region is such that, for a few days every 18.61 years, the moon rises so close to due south that it appears to "skim" around the horizon.

Two smaller circles known as Callanish II and Callanish III can barely be seen standing less than one mile due east.
