02:
The Most Easterly Stone
The
most easterly stone and end of the East Avenue on the far side of the
footpath was re-erected in 1982; indeed, most descriptions of the site
made before this time noted only four stones in the East Avenue.
The Pontings
found it described in notes made by Palmer and proved its existence in
1977. The stone was dug up in 1980 and re-erected two years later by "the
Ancient Monuments branch of the Scottish Development Department," according
to Ponting.
